Good day Vid, thank you for joining me on this lunch chat, even though it took us couple of months to finally get your attention. Most people will recognise you as an Emerging Face in Nollywood, so who is Ikenna David Ofordum Vid Iyke and what are your full names?
Smiles...My full name is Ikenna David Ofordum but popularly known as Vid Iyke, i hail from Nnewi North in Anambra State, graduated from Usmanu Danfodiyo University where i obtained a Bachelors' Degree in Science Education Physics and am the last child in my family.
Wow..So how was growing up like?
Well, growing up was fun, full of learning and self discoveries, i grew up in the close watch of my elder brothers and sisters. As the last child of the family i had little or no house chores to do, so i watched alot of TV programs and Movies.
How would you describe your kind of person?
Am disciplined and principled, focused and frowns at laxity.
Easy Going? Laughs! People see you as proud, arrogant and tough one, are you?
People mistake self confidence to pride, inability to codon their excesses as arrogance and my been principled to been tough. Regardless am a very simple, easy going and focused person.
How did it all begin for you?
In secondary school i participated a lot in Debate and drama club even though i was very good in science subjects as a result of which i led my school to winning the then renowned National Presidential Debate in 2005 where i also emerged as the Best Speaker. While in school as an undergraduate i joined the play house, I featured in countless stage plays including Femi Osofisan’s Hopes Of The Living Dead, Grip Am, Everyman, Trials Of Oba Ovoramnwen, Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh and lots more. I’ve always had the conviction that I would be in entertainment. I had a very interesting childhood. I was raised in a home where one was exposed to arts in all forms. And I’m lucky to have liberal minded parents who allowed us to pursue our dreams. So it wasn’t a surprise to my folks when I chose to join Nollywood . During my youth service in Niger State, I went for an audition in Enugu State and got a role in a Movie The Stone and acted alongside Chika Ike, Francis Duru, Ebere Okaro, Chiwetalu Agu and Uche Odoputa directed by Ikechukwu Onyeka. After service I pursued my dream and attended as many auditions as possible and today the rest is history.
Was it rough for you as a new actor then?
I was lucky to have a big start in the industry and i leveraged on it. I turned down lots of small roles after my first ever movie, waited and waited for the next big movie that will push me to the next ground, fortunately enough it came. So to me it wasn't rough at all because i had a clear objective of what i want so the waiting time i knew was worth it because nothing big comes easy.
So tell us, the names of the movie that shot you to limelight and some of the celebrities you have been opportuned to Work with as an actor?
Smiles...all of my movies have shot me to lime light especially my first movie The Stone, equally, i will say that the movie "Dragon Mother" got my brand accepted by lots of fans home and abroad, in the same vain, Heart of Evil, Asa Wah Wah, Raw Kiss, Shadows of Arndosa, Onukwube amongst others have been massive for me. To mention but a few, i have worked with Nkem Owoh, Chiwetalu Agu, Chika Ike, Ebere Okaro, Francis Duru, Ken Erics, Joyce Kalu, Don Brymo, Rita Arum.
Let's talk about one of the newest films you featured in and produced. Whats the movie all about, what role did you play and who are the artiste that starred in the movie?
My newest movie is called Follies. We just finished the shooting. I produced it. The movie is one of the best movie i have ever been involved in. Is about a young man who trapped between choosing his love and betraying his brother. I played Pet. The Artiste are, Chris Okorondu, Vid Iyke (myself), Ugo Benson, Empress Ann Tony's and others.
How do you deal with your female fans?
A lot of people see me as the ladies man especially after my role in RAW KISS and Shadows of Arndosa but i don't see myself as such. Sincerely it has not been easy though trying to deal with the female fans. Some of them even cross the lines but trust me i always know where to another draw line when they do chuckles!!.
If you could change just one thing about the industry with the wave of a magic hand, what would it be?
Lol.....Stop upcoming artiste from paying for a movie role. Give the roles out base on merit.
Wow ...that's Heart touching......So what advice would you give to someone who wants to come into the Industry?
Hmmh....it is not an easy industry. You need to know what you want first then work hard and try to create your own style.
So how can your fans follow you or reach you on social media?
