Avengers invite Buhari to Niger Delta
The militant group, Niger Delta
Avengers, on Saturday, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the
Niger Delta region to see the difficulties the dwellers are experiencing
despite the huge revenue accruable to the country from the region.
Reports indicated that Buhari had on Friday appealed to the group in God’s name to stop destroying oil installations.
In a statement signed by the group’s spokesman, Moduch Agbinibo, it lamented the underdevelopment in the region.
It stated, “Mr. President come and see
for yourself what the host communities are going through in the hands of
the Nigerian government and the multinationals.”
The statement further indicated that the
President should visit some of the host communities to the oil
multinational to have a firsthand knowledge of what the people in the
region had been subjected to for years.
“President Buhari should visit Ugborodo,
host to Chevron crude oil export terminal/EGTL gas plant, Ogulagha,
host to Shell Forcados crude oil export terminal/tank farm, Bonny
Island, host to Shell Bonny Crude Oil Export terminal/NLNG gas terminal,
Brass host to Agip/ENI export terminal and Ibeno, host to ExxonMobil
Qua Iboe crude export terminal.
“These are just the export terminals not
to talk of the numerous oil and gas flow stations and the oil wells
crisscrossing the length and breadth of the Niger Delta region,” the
statement added.
In a tweet, the group also urged the
President to borrow a leaf from recent happenings in the United Kingdom
by calling for a referendum to enable ethnic nationalities in the
country decide whether they still want to stay together or not.
